1973 Hamilton “Big Eye” Chrono Diver
$4,200
This is the Hamilton Chrono-Diver better known as Big Eye due to its dual sub dial registers. Hamilton introduced this reference in 1970. its cushion style case with a rotating diver’s bezel sets this watch apart from other models and references of the same era.
The Hamilton Big Eye has some very cool yet subtle design elements that really set it apart style-wise. The matte grey dial is accompanied by those two large, white subdials which each have red indicators and black chrono hands. The minute tracker around the outside of the dial is a deep and dark red color paired with a set of white luminous filled hands and a red chronograph hand. The block hour markers are a nice touch and a reminder of its 70s design. While this watch does look good, its made to be a workhorse. This is a great everyday watch that can withstand daily life and a little adventure too.
After closely examining this watch I’m not sure that its original owner ever wore it. It appears to have the original plastic protector still in place on the back. There are only a couple small scratches on its brushed steel case, some small imperfections on the crystal, and a missing red marker on the rotating bezel. When it comes to a watch of this age I expect to see some real signs of wear, and this watch just doesn’t seem to have them.
