Ingeborg Bratman trained in Leicester as a textile technologist for the knitting industry. She spent several years working as a designer of high class knitted fabrics, which were exported all over the world.

In 1965 she decided to take a sabbatical and went to college in London. She was encouraged to take a course in designing and making jewelry. There she became fascinated by the possibilities presented by working in a three dimensional form where precious metals, pearls and stones gave her the opportunity to use colour and texture as her background. She has been captivated by jewelry ever since. As well as using the conventional materials Ingeborg Bratman heard of a metal called Tantalum. This refractory metal was already used in industry but had never been used for jewelry. Thanks to a client of hers she was able to obtain some metal and thus began a two-year program of trials and errors of designs that were totally different to anything made of precious metal. Ingeborg’s biggest commission was a diamond necklace with 54 carat of top quality diamonds. Her passionate designs reflect her desire to embrace natural and organic shapes. One can truly see her desire to create unique and exquisite jewelry only seen through her artistic eyes.
